On a recent occasion, The Boys got together to share some thoughts and general,
inside info on the upcoming album, "WASTELAND"......This includes each member's
favorite song and individual comments on each track. Just the five members of
the band hangin' out, without any outside pressure, without a live audience, and
without a net......
This is what transcribed.....
(Editor's note:
These tracks are not in any specific order, due to the fact that the album is
still in it's finishing stages at this point........)
TAKE ME TO THE OTHER
SIDE
Jimmy:This is the quintessential TURBO party
song.
JR: This song evolved from a previous demo-- and we revamped
it to make it TURBULANCE'S answer to "Nothin' But a Good
Time".
Shane: One of the simplest grooves, yet one of the easiest
tunes to grab a hold of.
Jon: JR's drums really set the pace on
this one; a good rockin' song.
Hippie: This is one of the first
riffs that the band had when I came in. The first time I heard it, I was
like......yeah.....That's gonna be one of our anthems. I mean, everyone has to
get away from their day to day at some point and that's what this song is saying
to me.......Take Me To The Other Side, baby!
SO MANY
TEARS
Jimmy: This song was
written for a close friend of the band that was going through some rough
times.
JR: To me, this is the next evolution of the TURBULANCE
power ballad. This is the next step up from "Walkin' Away" which appeared on the first
album.
Shane: This is our best ballad yet.
Period.
Jon: It's a great, rockin' power ballad. This has got my
favorite solo from the new record on it.
Hippie: This song is so
freakin' beautiful. Anyone that hears it, that's breathing, will fall in love
with it. One of the most heartfelt tracks I've ever had the privelege of being
a part of.....One of my proudest moments in
music....
THE KIDS TODAY
Jimmy: TURBULANCE goes punk on
this one. Me and Hippie collaborated on the lyrics for this one after Jon gave
us the song title and actually finished them right before I laid the vocal track
down for Pete. Vocally, for me, this one was the easiest.
JR: This
song, for me, is meant to reestablish the idea that rock n roll is meant to be
raw and real; not like much of today's cookie-cut, manufactured, state of the
art crap. Music is more than just what the establishment try to shove down your
throat.
Jon: With this riff, I wanted to come up with something
contemporary, but still retaining that hard rock/metal edge that we all grew up
with. Pretty sure I was drinkin' when I came up with this
one.
Shane: I LOVE this fu*kin' song! So fun to play live. Our
manager, Matt, really digs this one.
Hippie: I think everyone has
heard the title of this song used in cliche from someone, whether it be their
parents, grandparents, teachers, etc;...I agree with Shane. This is one of the
most fun to play live of the new album. I TOTALLY get into the end of this one
everytime we play it out. Love how how JR ended the drums on this
song.
WASTELAND
Jimmy: Hippie brought this riff to the band not long after
joining. Everyone took to it right away.
JR: Jimmy and I wrote the lyrics for this one. The title track
carries on a loosely based concept from the band's previous album, "Calm Before
The Storm." In essence, now that the storm has passed with it's destruction,
you have your Wasteland, and subsequent
rebirth.
Jon: A great, fast,
rockin' track.
Shane:
Awesome song altogether. That opening riff just gets me pumped up everytime I
hear it. Reminds me of Megadeth.
Hippie: The intro to this song is one of my prouder moments on
the record. I was actually screwing around with AC/DC's 'Hell's Bells' one day
and this baby was born. Doesn't sound anything like it, but that's where it
came from...I love what the rest of the guys did to
it.
THE NEW SYN
Jimmy: This one was put on the album because no one liked the old
Syn...LOL. Originally titled, 'Syn and Syn Alike', it is one of the heavier
tracks on the record.
JR: If
any song is going to give you a preview of the next TURBULANCE record, I think
this is it. This is me and Jon at our
finest.
Shane: Coincidentally, this song makes me reminiscent of early
TURBULANCE. Kind of Iron Maidenish....
Jon: One of the most metal songs on the
album.
Hippie:
Hmmmm......I'm kind of blank on this one....Definitely one of the heaviest
things I've done with this band.
SINCE YOU'VE BEEN
GONE
Jimmy: I wrote and recorded a demo for this one on a four
track at home one day when I had nothing else to do...LOL. This song is easily
relateable to just about anyone with a pulse.
JR: I was going for
more of a straight ahead, what ya hear, is what ya get on this one; but at the
same time, trying to steer clear of the power ballad
feel.
Jon: This is a happy, upbeat song.....NOT!!
LOL
Shane: This is a good one and it's easy to play and pick
up on.
Hippie: This is one of the other tunes that the guys had
right before I joined the band. I love singing along to the chorus on this
one. A few of the lines really hit home for
me.
EASY LIVIN'
Jimmy: This is another TURBO party song. Something
everyone is lookin' for.
JR: This is probably one of the more
radio-ready songs that we have.
Jon: Kind of our anthem/tribute
to the late 80's/early 90's.
Shane: That's the pu**y gettin'
song!! That was my first thought when I heard Hippie play this riff. The title
says it all.
Hippie: I was just trying to come up with a simple,
yet, make you wanna get outta your seat, kind of riff.
Jimmy and I
collaborated on the lyrics for this one and once you hear it, you'll understand
what easy livin' is all about...
BANG
BANG BANG
Jimmy: This is another one that me and Hippie
wrote the lyrics for. This is one that, when being rehearsed by the band, I had
a hard time remembering the verse and Hippie would the start the vocals out on
it. After a while, I convinced him to do it all the time.
JR:
This is one of my favorites. the rhythm section really drives this one home.
The bass is very outspoken in this one.
Jon: Great riff with an
equally better chorus.
Shane: Hands down, one of the best songs
on the record. Hippie threw in an extra riff over top of Jon's that really
brought this one to life.
Hippie: This one was partially based on
a true story for me. If ya can't figure it out by the
tite.....um....well......not sure what to tell
ya.
MADE IN THE
SHADE
Jimmy: This
one was originally on our previous record, "Calm Before The Storm". After
playing this one out for so many years, the song kept evolving to the point that
the band felt that that it was worthy of being rerecorded with the Evick
production touch.
JR: This song has some swagger to it. Our
version of the rock n roll dream.
Shane: Oldie, but goodie. This
was the first song written after I first joined TURBULANCE.
Jon:
One of our first songs that sounds better everytime we play it. I'm pretty sure
I was drunk when I wrote this.
Hippie: This is another one of my
favorites to play out live. Great breakdown in the middle of the song that just
gets you into the groove of the whole thing. I just tried to do my own thing on
this one.
GONE AGAIN
Jimmy: This was the first song written for the new
album.
JR: Another one of my favorites. This is one of those in
your face, driving, don't give a f**k kind of songs. It's about having what you
want within sight or reach and repeatedly snatched away.
Shane: I
just love the fast pace of this one. It f'n rocks!!!!!!!
Jon:
This riff is my tribute to the thrash genre. It definitely comes from our
heavier influences.
Hippie: In a nutshell? This song just makes
me wanna break shit.
FINAL
THOUGHTS
Jimmy: This album has been a long time coming, but we think the fans are gonna
love it.
JR: This album is one of the most diverse and unique
endeavors we've ever undertaken. This is our effort to keep artistry and vision
alive in raw, honest, rock n roll. We hope everyone enjoys this record because
there will be more to come.....ROCK N ROLL NEVER
DIES!!!!!!!!
Shane: My seven year itch is waiting to get
scratched on this mofo!!!
Jon: Where's
Charlie?
Hippie: I couldn't have said it any better than the rest
of the guys. On behalf of the band, I want to thank all our fans, friends,
family, road crew, the one and only, Mr. Pete Evick, and general hellraisers,
that have supported us and went along for the ride. I can't wait until all of
you have this record in your
hands.
